HANA PESUT: SWITCHEROO

SwitcherooSwitcheroo is a new look in to the classic couple or family portrait. Self-taught photographer Hana Pesut has taken out the mundane of the average portrait and turned it into something new and fun.

Hana’s Switcheroo’s project is a simple concept, but an amazing idea. With her Hasselblad 500cm camera, Hana allows the couple she is photographing to pick their favorite spot in the city, once the backdrop is chosen, she will take a simple before picture of the couple. Then, she will ask the couple to switch their clothing and positions, so she can take an after picture of the switch. Not only does she make them change clothing, which became a challenge for some of the couples who picked locations with nowhere to get changed, she also makes them pose the same way they did in the before picture.

BeatRoute asked Pesut what inspired her to start the Switcheroo project: “When I was camping with some friends and two of them were dressed very different from each other. One was wearing tie-dye, sequins and lots of silk scarves and everything was very bright and colorful and the other was wearing black jeans and a black T-shirt so I thought it would be fun if they switched outfits and I decided to take before and after photos.” These images are very addictive because you always want to see what the man is going to look like in the women’s clothing and vice versa.

Pesut has been working hard on her Switcheroo project for the past two years. She has been able to do “over 200 Switcheroos all over the world: Spain, Japan, France, Austria, Mexico, Canada and the U.S.” to the point where she is now able to “publish a 64-page book of some of the favourites.” One of Pesut’s favorite Switcheroo is Lelia and her dad Azim, “He was such a good sport, willing to wear anything and seeing him in leopard print jumpsuit and high heels will certainly leave a lasting impression on anyone!” Using indiegogo.com, she has been able to raise some funds for her Switcheroo project, so she can publish her book in the new year.
