Check the section for shows not mentioned here! We’ve got great profiles on Cauldron, Greber, Netheriel, Veil of Maya, Kylesa, Calgary Metal Fest, Immolation, and more, who are performing with a cavalcade of amazing acts.

On Monday, May 9, Dickens Pub (1000 – 9 Ave. S.W.) will host Doomed Society Volume 9. Head over for the “finest anarchopunk, crust, hardcore, and other vile shit” around 9 p.m. The event is free!

FREE BACON! On Saturday, May 11, Lord Nelson’s Bar & Grill (1020 – 8 Ave. S.W.) will host Mongol from Devon, Alberta, alongside Nelson’s Savage Blade, Edmonton’s Guardians of Power, and Calgary’s Loremaster. Head’r down for some epic metal. Tickets are $10 at the door; the show coincides with Annihilatrix Productions owner Kaje’s birthday. Buy her some beer as a thank you for putting on such rad gigs.

Perhaps inspired by the backlash against last year’s ticket prices, the annual lollapalooza known as Chuck’s Birthday Bash/ the Death Tribute Show will happen on Saturday, May 11 for FREE. So get your ass down to Vern’s and listen to metal and stop being such a whiny asshole/bitch and make sure you put some money in the donation box. Performing that evening will be Kryosphere, Leave The Living, Savage Streets, Martial Law, Arsenal, Vile Insignia, Moosifix, The Avulsion, Reverend Kill, and Sub Atomic Chaos. Each act will perform a cover or two alongside originals. Did we mention it’s FREE?

Try as we did, we couldn’t get interviews for this show, but it’s going to result in some seriously punctuated eardrums and likely some topless moshing. On Saturday, May 11, head down to the Republik (219 – 17 Ave. S.W.) for Sweden’s Hypocrisy, alongside Krisiun, Aborted, and Arsis. Tickets are available from Ticketfly for $29.50.

The following Saturday, May 18, Lord Nelson’s Bar & Grill will host Noctis V performers Archspire, fresh off their signing to Season of Mist. Don’t miss the chance to see these technical death titans. Providing support will be Edmonton’s Display of Decay, Medicine Hat’s Morbidly Depraved, and Calgary’s Hazzered and Shrapnal. Meanwhile, a few blocks down at Verns Pub, Calgary grind stalwarts Phantom Limb will perform.

If you like your metal brutal, head to Vern’s Pub (622 – 8 Ave. S.W.) on Saturday, May 25 for AfterEarth, who will perform with local acts Eye of Horus, We Found the Body, and Leave the Living. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.

Edmonton act album release!!!! On Thursday, May 30, saunter down to Dickens Pub for some loud and fast acts. Edmonton’s Armifera will be releasing Eradication and performing; the lineup also features West of Hell, Scarbelly Creek, Breed of War, and Arsenal. Tickets are $10.

Lastly, it’s time to get amped up for the upcoming metal festivals. First, buy your tickets for Calgary Metal Fest, which runs from June 5th to 9th. We did an interview with organizer Nathan Renaud this month to get you all pumped up, because the man has organized 77 bands in four days and deserves some advance ticket sales along with a beer shower and high five.

The Fuck off Life Festival will fulfil all your extreme and underground needs, and runs on July 12th and 13th in Calgary. Armstrong Metal Fest is gearing up to be a gong show, and will run in British Columbia from July 19th to July 21st. Also, Noctis 666 – Lucifer Rex has been confirmed for September 19th to 21st. Commence pants shitting and band recommending NOW.
