APOCALYPSE WARS

Tuesday 06th, August 2013 / 17:16

Apocalypse - No credit req'dWHEN A ZOMBIE WAR WAGES, WHICH SIDE WILL YOU BE ON?

The Bureau of Apocalypse Wars is a creative organization that focuses on raising money for small to mid-sized local charities. They bring the community together for zombie-themed fun and games and donate 100 per cent of their proceeds to two causes, in addition to contributions from sponsors.

“We’re going for the under-30 crowd. Those guys don’t necessarily always know how easy it is to give back to their community, so our goal is to really make it fun, make it relevant and make it easy,” explains Tara McLaughlin, the creator of Apocalypse Wars. Each war, two new charities are chosen, and this year’s selections include H.O.P.E (Housing Outreach Prevention & Engagement) and Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids.

The war starts out with 40 Hunters (humans) and 60 Zombies, in a one-hour, capture-the-flag style match. Historically, humans have not fared well, losing every war to date. It could be due to the fact that these zombies are allowed to swarm, group and, perhaps most terrifyingly of all, run! It also doesn’t help that, as McLaughlin explains, that their “zombies are smarter than your usual undead!” The days of simply out-smarting zombies are long over, so Apocalypse Wars has hired help. Humans will now be trained before they go to war, by an ex-military “Hunter.” As for the zombies, they need no help, but they do get a fearsome zombie makeover, done by some professional make-up artists.

There are three games throughout the day, so get your tickets now for your chance to destroy (or save) the world. Come to the war and join the effort!

The chaos will be unleashed August 10 in Calgary’s Canmore Park. Get more info at www.apocalypsewars.ca
