March sure came in like a lion, but April looks to be just about as fierce. Calgary’s dance scene is bursting into the spring and summer with performances that are wild, wonderful and wistful.

Dance@Noon and Dance@Night
University of Calgary School of Creative and Performing Arts
University Theatre
April 7-9 (Dance@Noon); April 10-11 (Dance@Night)

These dance showcases offer audiences a peek into the creative process into new student work. In the brand-new Choreography and Performance stream of the U of C Dance program, students are challenged to create, develop and perform new work. The intense focus of the program is a challenge for students, and these performances are a celebration of their triumphs. The performances are free to the public.

The Cube
W&M Physical Theatre
Pumphouse Theatre
April 3 & 5

This international company finds itself at the intersection of many languages, cultures and traditions, and these exciting combinations reflect in their wildly dynamic performances. Physical theatre mixes conventions we know from the world of plays as well as abstract movement from the world of dance. There are only two days to catch The Cube and anyone looking for something dynamic and a little different should be there.
