CALGARY — There comes a certain point in every adult’s life when their palate yearns for variety beyond beer and mixed drinks. For those who have the desire to create sophisticated cocktails but aren’t sure where to start, The Bourbon Room is debuting Cocktail Classes, an evening of learning how to mix like a pro.

Award-winning barkeep Stephen Phipps will guide participants through the world of classic cocktails. In addition to learning recipes, as well as tips, tricks and techniques for how to properly craft a great cocktail, participants will learn the history of each of the three drinks they make and enjoy snacks from the National menu.

Since opening upstairs from the beer hall at National last summer, the Bourbon Room has become known for its intimate size and vintage tavern-style setting. Phipps, the mastermind behind the Bourbon Room menu, has worked in Calgary bars and restaurants for over 10 years. In addition to winning the first annual Calgary Cocktail Competition, Phipps has represented Alberta at the Canadian Stella Draughtmaster Competition for two consecutive years.

The Bourbon Room Presents: Cocktail Classes takes place July 29 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $75 each and space is very limited. Check out the Big Tickets event page for more details.
