Clubland: February 2015

clubland1VANCOUVER — That’s right; it’s February already. 2015 is slipping through your fingers. So before we get to this point next month and you really start to wonder what you’ve been doing with your time, it’s probably a good idea to get out and about, and maybe check out one or two of the following musical highlights. It’s a short month; make the best of it!

After far too much hard work, the first of the year’s long weekends is upon us, and with it, the Legendary Long Weekend party. As the longest running long weekend party in the city, this night is a true institution of Vancouver’s underground dance music scene. Us-ing the three rooms of the Waldorf to full effect, the main Tabu room will consist of un-derground house and techno (Austin Phillips/Midnight Vulture/Pure Addiction/Kevin Kao), while the Tiki plays host to a Body Language takeover (Neigh-bour/Woodhead/Abasi/Fedski), and the Hideaway to ShahDJs (Willisist/Eradik/J.F. Killah/Decibel Point).

Feb 13th – SHOCKOUT! @ THE FOX

With the Fox Cabaret’s recently upgraded sound system, the venue seems like the ideal choice for a new rap/dancehall/grime/bass monthly. Hosted by some of the best in the business; Max Ulis, Michael Red, Taal Mala, DJ Cure and Self Evident. There’s really not much more that needs to be said here, but Feb. 13 will be the inaugural event of the series, and it will definitely be worth checking out.

Feb 21st – TEREKKE @ THE FOX

Not slowing down at all after two great events in January, the sixth Pacific Rhythm Ses-sions instalment will bring Terekke back to Vancouver for the first time since a wildly popular show in 2013. A stalwart of the continually influential L.I.E.S. label, each of Terekke’s understated yet timeless vinyl releases have proven to be essential purchases. Terekke’s production process relies heavily on live experimentation and performance, so a live show from the now Berlin-based producer will be a particular treat. Local support comes from Friendly Chemist.

Feb 27th – OBJEKT @ THE FOX

Last month brought us Andy Stott and Kowton, this month it’s Objekt. The very best in forward thinking British electronic music producers are certainly being imported at an impressive rate; something that we can only hope will continue throughout the year. Currently based in Berlin, Objekt is one of the world’s most critically acclaimed elec-tronic artists, combining elements of techno, bass music and experimental dubstep into a style that is truly his own. With local support from Michael Red and Frumlater.
