The brainchild of Edmonton’s Jessica Jalbert, Faith Healer has released a spacey-sweet blend of sounds with Cosmic Troubles. With gently drifting vocals and sometimes sugared, sometimes subdued acid-pop guitars the listener journeys from sun soaked lemonade stand to kaleidoscopic space in 11 tracks. Where songs like “Cosmic Trouble” over-reach slightly and sound a bit clunky, others like “Was, Is And Is To Come “ are pleasantly sleepy and sweet, inducing a star-gazing reminiscence. Highlights from the album are “Canonized” and “No Car,” which blend a milky, captivating serenity into waves of commotion and/or distortion. These tracks end up evoking a sort of Belle-and-Sebastian-meets-Beach-House sound and are quite pleasant. Overall, the album conveys an eclectically intriguing sound that fits well on Mint Records’ current roster.
