JEREMY UNDERGROUND – May 16th @ The Beaumont

The guys at Pacific Rhythm continue their string of quality bookings with Jeremy Underground’s first ever Vancouver show at Mount Plesant’s Beaumont Studios. Having always focused on DJing and musical curation as opposed to producing himself, Jeremy Underground has fostered a globally acclaimed reputation as one of the best selectors of deep and classy house music. His label, My Love Is Underground, is celebrating its fifth year in 2015, the success of which was highlighted last year by Resident Advisor selecting the My Love Is Underground compilation (curated by Jeremy himself) as their #1 compilation of the year. Support at this show comes from the usual Pacific Rhythm selectors.

MANO LE TOUGH – May 21st @ M.I.A.

Originally from Dublin and now residing in Berlin where he runs his monthly ‘Passion Beat’ party, Mano Le Tough is a world renowned producer of his inimitable self-described ‘folkal house’; deep and emotional house music tinged with warmth and subtle disco influences. With releases on Permanent Vacation, Internasjonal and Dirt Crew, his output is revered by fans and fellow DJs alike, and in recent years he has been consistently considered to be one of the best DJs in the world. Kristian Beyer of Âme perhaps put it best when he stated in a recent interview; “Thanks to Mano Le Tough, I have no fears for the future of House.” Local support comes from James Hopkins and Cato Kane.

HAKIM MURPHY – May 22nd @ Red Gate

Hakim Murphy

Hakim Murphy

A true product of Chicago, Hakim Murphy found his musical footing as a footwork dancer. Increasingly influenced by the music of Larry Heard, Dance Mania and Cajual Records, he began DJing in the mid ‘90s, eventually producing his own interpretation on house and techno. Whilst his music has always displayed a strong allegiance to the machine-focused Chicago house sound, his productions continually look forward and break new ground as opposed to seeming overly nostalgic. This modern interpretation shines through in both of his labels, Synapsis and Machining Dreams, and makes him a perfect fit for the local Academics series. Support comes from Vancouver underground favourites Local Artist, Scott W. and DJ D. Dee.

MOVE D – May 23rd @ The Fox

Move D

Move D

Last year’s Move D show at Open Studios was a personal highlight of 2014, and there are no doubts that this night at The Fox will be just as exciting. Having been making music for over 20 years under a variety of monikers on some of underground dance music’s biggest labels, David Moufang has a back catalogue that could create a sell out show in itself. However, as he is known for not playing his own productions in his DJ sets, a Move D DJ show is a chance to hear some of the best picked by one of the very best. Dress to sweat. Local support comes from Sassmouth, Jesse Bru and Myte, with Max Ulis in the Projection Room upstairs.
