VANCOUVER — I wish I had known that Beat Connection was going to be a DJ set before I got there, because then I would have brought a book to read or something. Super boring opening! It isn’t realistic to picture a band such as Jungle coming to the stage after that.

When all the members finally landed on the stage, the wall of sound and funk hit like a brick. Jungle are a talented bunch, their set list sounding more like a greatest hits only after one album.

A struggle they face is not having a frontman to draw the audience in. There should be so much happening on the stage with seven ‘front-people’ to focus on, but even with all those band members, the energy almost falters. Don’t get me wrong, they’re a talented bunch, but it might take another album before they hit their live stride.
