HUMANS premiere short film, announce free REMIX app

By Glenn Alderson

VANCOUVER — Vancouver electronic duo HUMANS have not stopped buzzing since the release of their highly danceable sophomore release, Noontide, early last year. The album landed them a JUNO nomination and projected them in to a much wider audience, including appearances at Coachella, Osheaga, Nocturnal Festival and the upcoming Growlers-curated Beach Goth Festival on Oct. 22 in Silverado, CA.

It’s been a while since they played an official live show in their hometown, Peter Ricq and Robbie Slade are bringing it back to where it all started, Sept. 9 at the Imperial. The duo is looking forward to bringing all their friends together under one roof at the Imperial before they hit the road this fall.

But first, BeatRoute is excited to premiere a new short film, shot and directed by Ricq, called “Stalk,” featuring the two infamous little puppets who have made appearances in past HUMANS video projects.

“During the ‘Tell Me’ video shoot, we rented a cop car and then decided to shoot these short films with it the next day,” Ricq says. “Driving in a cop car is super fun actually. We always wanted to release these along with the REMIX app. It just took that long to get the app working and have it ready.”

The REMIX app Ricq is speaking of was conceptualized by him and Slade and is designed to put you, the listener, in the producer’s chair, creating your own personal remix for the Human’s track “At The Beach.”

“We hired a friend of ours, Sol Williams, to put it all together with the financial help from FACTOR,” Ricq says. “You can download it for free on your phone and make a remix in minutes. It sounds really good actually.”

Looking towards their hometown showdown at the Imperial, Ricq and Slade have brought some friends onboard for the ride.

“We are pretty stoked about the event and we have The Passenger, Billie Danger and The Righteous Rainbows of Togetherness, which we are bringing from Victoria. Righteous Rainbows opened for us in Victoria last March. We loved what they do and asked them if they’d be willing to open for us here in Vancouver on our next show.”

Catch HUMANS September 9 at Imperial Theatre (Vancouver) and October 8 at the Chvrch of John (Edmonton).
