VANCOUVER – At Fortune Sound Club’s “Happy Endings Friday,” it is not unusual to see lines outside the venue starting at 11 AM all the way till close. However, this week’s “Happy Endings Friday” featured DJ Esco (most notably known for being Future’s official DJ) who brought an exceptional number of people to the club even for Fortune’s standards.

DJ Esco has been busy the last couple of years. While working heavily with Future (being the executive producer on the trap artist’s most recent LPs, including Future and Hndrxx both released last month, in addition to many more mixtapes) he has also been a key producer working with the likes of Drake, Juicy J, and Lil Uzi Vert. In addition to his collaboration with many successful artists, he has found the time to create three of his own mixtapes (Project E.T. in 2016, 56 Nights partnering with Future in 2015 and No Sleep in 2014).

The majority of the night featured Fortune’s resident DJs. At times repetitive (playing the same Drake, Ugly God and Travi$ Scott hits), but the attendees still appeared to enjoy the all aspects of the night.

Past 1:00 AM, attendees at the club began to get impatient. After a long wait, DJ Esco triumphantly walked on stage as his tech manager introduced him as, “the coolest DJ in the world.” The crowd at Fortune seemed to forgive DJ Esco’s late attendance and enthusiastically welcomed him to Vancouver.

DJ Esco did not disappoint. Wearing his trademark backpack, he jumped on a podium in front of the stage and began belting out lyrics to “All Right”. The crowd responded with similar vivacity. DJ Esco then continued to rap several songs from Future’s Purple Reign (such as “Drippin’” and “Wicked”), as well as other songs from What a Time to Be Alive, Project E.T., and Future’s two newest LPs. DJ Esco’s commanding stage presence was critical to his positive performance, especially amid a music scene that demands significant hype and energy.
