Let’s Get Jucy: December 2017

CALGARY – And just like that another year has come and gone. It’s been a big year both personally and for the scene at large. There has been a lot of growth and development, and I’m very proud to still run the helm of Jucy remotely from my quiet, rave-less little town in the mountains. Here’s some heat for December 2017.

Okay first of all, December 2 I’m going to have to ask you to calm the fuck down (that’s right, I cuss). You’ve got TroyBoi at the Palace, Eelke Kleijn at Habitat, Shiba San at Marquee and discothèque Nuits one year anniversary. You could just put all the shows up on a wall, blindfold yourself and huck a dart at ‘em. Wherever you end up, rest assured the music will be phenomenal.

A new monthly event takes place for the first time on December 7 at Habitat called Low Frequency. This time the artists include Fat Pat, Bambooloo, Skradley and Fatelvis.

Also on the 7 at the HiFi, New Wave continues to blaze on ahead with Set The Record featuring Better Living DJs, A-Mac and Crooka.

Delta Heavy have in recent years strayed away from solely producing drum and bass and now their sets encompass a whole range of electro and dubstep. Catch them on December 8 at the Palace Theatre.

Surrey, BC’s Merkules is back in Calgary, preforming at the Marquee on December 15. I got to catch his show at the Faygo-soaked Juggalo clusterfuck earlier this year and he was the most talented guy I saw by far. Big belly, big scars, big lyrics. The guy is an amazing MC.

Fractal Forest vibes will come shimmering down upon the Nite Owl on December 16 with ghetto funk/breakbeat specialists WBBL, DLB and Freddy J.

On Christmas Eve’s eve, you can take in the extreme spectacle that is LongWalkShortDock. To accompany his signature brand of hard-hitting, relentless “deathno” this mad scientist always has some wild stage performance, in addition to just smashing the complete shit out of at least one of his keyboards. Will he don Braveheart warpaint and toss swords into the crowd? He did the last time I saw him at Shambhala. Find out on December 23 at the Palace.

South African/Swiss deep house producer Nora En Pure brings her soothing internationally-inspired melodies to the Palace on December 29

Big Boi of legendary hip-hop outfit Outkast brings his Daddy Fat Saxxx tour to the Palace on January 5.

That’s it for me for 2017, my countless, vehemently loyal readers. May your Yules be merry, your solstices saucy, and your holidays rich and restful. Savour the last weeks and days of this year. Take in some good music. Spend quality time with your friends and family. It’s too early to tell what 2018 will bring, let’s all approach it readily and boldly.
