Hewson Grey have been quietly riding a fuzzed out 90s post grunge wave since 2014. Moments of blues infuse what is often loud, yet non aggressive, rock music. The band was quickly noticed by Edmonton label Sometimes Music, run by the late Steve Steffler. The now defunct label helped release their last few singles, preparing them for the a full length release later this year.
Their full length will no doubt be crammed with their style of frenetic indie rock, something Steffler would have been proud of.
“Waited All Night” is an easy pill to swallow. Living on the prairies often depends on a post punk soundtrack and Hewson Grey delivers. Softening the heaviness of the opening instrumentals with a few group “love love’s” tucked into the course, it’s just over three minutes of heavy indie pop.
