VANCOUVER – The Ponderosa Arts & Music Festival had its beginnings as a farfetched dream shared between friends – after a long weekend spent partying outdoors, camping, listening to music and floating lazily along the river, they wanted to share their experience with others. Thus, Ponderosa was born. True to form, festival organizers announced the 2018 lineup by throwing a party at the Rickshaw Theatre featuring performances from Ponderosa acts, past and present.
At this year’s party, held on May 11, they screened an official lineup launch video: over the weekend of August 17 to 19, festivalgoers will be treated to performances by the likes of k-os, The Funk Hunters, Yukon Blonde, Blue Hawaii, and many more. The Rock Creek-based festival also features an art installation each year, along with food offerings and a marketplace for local merchants and artisans to showcase and sell their wares.
While the festival features some big names, it takes place in the small community of Rock Creek, and organizers are conscious of welcoming a large influx of visitors to their tight-knit town. Everything about this festival is carefully planned in order to be as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. Ponderosa isn’t throwing just another summer festival – they’re hosting an outdoor house party, and we’re all invited.
