Taking place on a Saturday night, alt hip-hop singer songwriter Dominic Fike played a short and sweet set for a packed all ages audience at Venue Nightclub in Vancouver.
Fellow BROCKHAMPTON collaborator Deb Never opened the night with selections from her latest EP, House On Wheels. Her setup is simple and effective – reflective of her pared down emo infused hip-hop. Most of her set Deb mumbled into the microphone, eyes closed but ended her set on an amped up rendition of her angsty and vulnerable single, “Ugly.”
After a brief intermission, the stage lit up again and Dominic Fike immediately launched into his rousing single, “Phone Numbers.” The energy swelled and everyone watching was in sync with Fike, the crowd sang along, the bassist and drummer perfectly accompanying him.
Throughout the show Fike easily transitioned from guitar to piano, from vocal runs to rapping, and proved to go beyond the hype he’s generated for himself online. Between songs, as the night came to a close, Fike gushed about his day spent biking the seawall and eating sushi and ramen. Dominic Fike loves Vancouver, and after watching his set it was clear the feeling is mutual.Dominic Fike, Venue Nightclub
