With her debut full-length due out this spring, roots-soul powerhouse, Jess Knights, premieres the lead single off the album with “Leave Me For The Last Time.” A timeless, black-and-white throwback to the golden days of romance melodramas, the moody, melancholic video amps up the slow-burn of that final goodbye in life: that choice whether one should sacrifice love or life.
“Sacrifice is a virtue of love we don’t talk about as much,” says Knights. “The decision to sacrifice your love or your life is not an easy choice. It’s my opinion that no love is worth letting go of your life, your dreams, or your plans. Sometimes you just have to let someone leave for the last time, so that you can create something meaningful for yourself. It’s the one love that will last a lifetime, if you let it.”
“Leave Me For The Last Time” was produced by The Light Factory in Calgary and features Knights cutting between colour and black-and-white scenes while ghostly, classic footage shimmers behind her as waves of nostalgia wash over the track. Check out the video below.
